My Story

Johnnie L. Davis Sr. of Crosby Texas was called home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2010. He passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 81. Johnnie will be remembered by all as a generous, caring and loving man. He was preceded in his death by his parents Zola Mae Davis and Charles Nelson Eugene Davis, his sister Betty Mayfield and his beautiful daughter Lisa Day. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Jo Elon Bishop. He is also survived by his daughter Karon Hilditch and husband Dave, son Johnnie Davis Jr. and wife Ann, grandchildren Kimberly Doyal Perez and husband Eddie, Jason Hilditch, Ryan Hilditch and wife Larysa, Brett Hilditch, Keitha Palermo and husband John, John Powell and wife Elizabeth, great grandchildren Hillary Hilditch, Emerson Doyal Perez, Mina Doyal Perez, Ashlie Austin, Madison Palermo, Kaitlyn Palermo, Aidan Powell and Abby Powell. He is also survived by brother-in-law Dr. Marion Bishop and wife Tassa, nephews Dr. Barry Bishop and wife Cindy, Brian Bishop and wife Trisha, niece Dr. Tracy Osborn and husband Robin, great nephew Larry Cross and wife Joy, numerous cousins and all of the family’s many children, grand children and great grand children whom he loved dearly. Johnnie will forever be known for his wit and good nature. Johnnie’s adventurous spirit carried him and Jo across Texas, the United States and Central and South America on many memorable journeys. He has touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his life. His work ethic, intelligence and business savvy gained him respect from employees and employers alike. He rose to the position of President of a major engineering and construction company from an humble start as a brick layer’s helper. He was always eager to help others with employment, shelter or financial support. He was a builder of great projects throughout the state and country. He was deeply proud of his wife Jo and children Karon Lisa and Johnnie, his daughter-in-law Ann and son-in-law Dave. He was also proud of his Cherokee heritage as well. The family would like to thank Lynnette Shockley and Stephanie Akin and the ladies of Compassionate Home Care of Humble for their loving care and kindness over the many months they spent caring for Johnnie. Contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in Johnnie’s name would be thankfully accepted. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 19, 2010 from 5-8pm at Sterling ~ White Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 20, 2010 at Sterling ~ White Funeral Home at 10:00AM in the chapel. Burial will follow at Sterling ~ White Cemetery.
