My Story

Farewell Tina

I will always remember Tina as a quiet person but will always let you know what she thinks, someone who was intelligent, a book lover like me, and I will always remember her big smile. I can't believe she's gone, just several weeks ago we were sending messages back and forth, and she was constantly telling me stories about Mariel.

The Lord took her away from us, not to hurt the people who love her but to free her from the pain and finally let her rest in His loving arms.

Mariel will now have her mother as her personal angel.  Tina will forever be missed.

In behalf of the Ballesca Family we send our prayers and love to the Venal and De Leon family, especially to little Mariel.Always know your Mother loved you very much.

Farewell Tina.
Kathrina C. Ballesca

Poem Of Life

life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know. For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord

love you dearly

Tet

Our deepest condolences to the Venal family, to Manny, and to my god-daughter, Mariel. In behalf of my family...Please know that we will continue to pray for comfort, strength, and consolation for you, during your time of grief.

I will miss you, Tet...... I still can't stop crying... The last time we spoke, I was already crying half of the time. You know me, I've always been the cry-baby sa ating dalawa.

You will always be one of my best friends. Obvious naman sa mga FB pictures natin, diba? ahehe.. Tet, kahit nagtatampo ako that you had to reneg on your promise regarding our date in December, I'm glad you're finally free from pain and you're no longer suffering. I hope you're resting in the arms of Jesus now, watching over us, and keeping us safe. I know you're one of my angels na. At least I have another angel to protect me. Bahala kana sakin ha?

I will miss you so much, Tet.

I love you.

A big thank you to Facebook for finding you, even though our time together was cutshort, you will always be close to my heart.
Thank you for the great memories we shared.

You and I will meet again
When we're least expecting it
One day in some far off place

Teacher’s Workshop at Cradle of Love Learning Center

She sits across me silently working on her name tag.

RELL: “Maria Christina Venal-De Leon, ang haba naman ng pangalan mo, wala ka bang nickname?” not looking at me and yet answers

MARICRIS: ”Meron”. Still cutting the letters of her name using construction paper

RELL: “Ano?”

MARICRIS: “Basta!”

In my mind I was thinking…”what a snob!?!” So, I did what I had to do, make my own name tag too.

Minutes later…

MARICRIS: “Oh no, it won’t fit! Hay naku…”

I looked at her work and saw that it was spelled M-A-R-I-C-R-I and she was holding the letter “S”.

I was silently thank God that I only have four letters to my nickname R-E-L-L.

I can only share good thoughts about Teacher Maricris, a.k.a Tina, a.k.a. Cris, a.k.a. Tekla.

During our times at Cradle of Love Learning Center, we’d do our bonding after work like play scrabble and boggle. We would even do aerobics and yoga to keep us fit. The most memorable are our road trips and teacher’s day out trips.

A particular trip was our teacher’s and staff outing in Quezon Province. It was our first out of town trip together. Maricris brought her own car with her because she had to leave a day earlier because of a family engagement. We left Manila about 6:00 in the evening. The sun already set and darkness was slowly creeping in. In the car with us where Teachers Franz and Aileen. Following us was the van of Teacher Ching with the rest of the staff. Our route was Antipolo, Rizal then Quezon. Somewhere along Rizal, there’s this part of the raod known as “bituka ng manok” because it zigzags like intestine and the cliffs where so steep.

While in the car, we were talking about the super natural, like the “mananangal” a person that splits its body in two. The lower part of the body is left in a secluded area. The upper part of the body grows wings and flies off to the night, hunting for its prey, usually small children, babies and pregnant women. The “kapre” or the giant who lives in a tree, smokes his cigar and misleads you in different directions.

Scarring ourselves with our tales, our dear Teacher Maricris, switches off all the lights in the car…I mean ALL and steps on the gas while we were driving down the “bituka ng manok” leaving us screaming shitless, then switches everything back on again. “Ayos ba?” she asks, then does the same thing again and again.

Cradle of Love gave us opportunities to look for venues for Family Day and field trips and of course this would entail driving out of town. Guess who keeps on volunteering her death defying driving skills? Yes, you guessed it right…Teacher Maricris. But, I must admit she’s really good behind the wheel.

During these trips, we’d get side tracked because she’d bring us to these out of the way places that only she could discover. Once, we went to Los Baños and stopped by Pagsanhan to eat lunch at this binalot restaurant and later on ended in Paete Laguna, famous for handicrafts and paper maché products. Thus, Teacher Franz gave her another title, “Ang babaeng may kariton sa paa”.

The “babaeng may kariton sa paa” finally comes home to the Philippines for a visit! Sadly, we weren’t able to schedule an out of town trip but instead, we spent the evening at Eastwood. It was a blast! We had coffee, chocolate cake and lots of laughter! This was the last night I spent with her. Our last adventure together and, I’m happy that this will be the memory I will forever keep in my heart. It has been a pleasure being your friend. I love you, Maricris.

Tinay

It is as if a significant part of me has perished. I constantly denied the truth and often remembered pleasant memories of Tinay, it was unacceptable and beyond belief that my good friend was severely suffering for a considerable length of time.

With... all my might I will deny this ruthless truth of her passing and shall continue to live life thinking, that only time has separated us, that on a particular day and time, I will soon meet Tinay, along an old road and around a familiar corner, a place where no one can say...farewell.
