My Story

Our Mom was born in Astoria Oregon in 1924, she has two brothers and her parents were born and from Norway. Astoria Oregon at that time did not have the Astoria Bridge they had a ferry that went over to Washington side I do not know what year the ferry started. But I remember going on it and it had a gift shop and people drove there car on it and got out. We lived In Burnside not far from Astoria we moved there when I was 4 I think, I remember that we got milk from the milk man and had cream on the top. Our mom taught herself to drive the car I believe. She worked at the canery in Astoria. And when we moved to Portland, she worked at East Port Plaza working at a clothes store and in Gresham she worked At Gorden Stones and she and a friend owned a clothes store, the name was The Cats Pajamas, one time she was working there and two ladies came in, and she had her purse in the back and one of the ladies went back and took her purse, my mom saw this and she chased the ladies out the store but never caught them to get her purse back, I do not remember if she ever got her purse back.  She loved us girls so much and helped us when we needed it, I remember when I was in my 20's she would bring food over that she bought at the store for me when I had apartment and she always would help me find a apartment and help me get things for it, she was always there for me.
She helped me in so many ways. Our Mom had breast cancer for a long time and suffered so with it she lost weight and had so many problems it was heart breaking for us girls to see her that way she was on oxygen off and on and at the end she was on it all the time. One night that we came down to see her my sister and I and spend the night because we lived a couple hours away, my other sister lived with her to help her while she was so sick, anyway when we all went to bed, I heard a noise and our Mom fell I yelled for my sister that she fell and she ran in and me to, to our mom's bedroom and we helped her up and I stayed by her bedside and held her hand thinking I could be there when she had to go to the bathroom, I got up and went back in the livingroom and fell sleep and my sister woke me up and said didnt I hear that big bang and I said no, well our Mom fell big time, she fell backwards over the toliet thingy her head hit the wall and left a dent, oh I was in shock and felt helpless, we tried to get her up but she was a dead weight, my sister called 911 and they came to help her back into bed, and the next day us three girls put her in Hospice House, and a couple days after she passed away peacefully. That day we went and saw her the day we put her in the Hospice House she was very weak she could not talk to us, she was that way at home to right before she went in, her face was so white no color, she said at one time  NO MORE PAIN, so they gave her meds that would help her. All this is so heartbreaking to go though and still is, anyway right before we left the last time I saw her I kissed her on her forhead and said I loved her.
I love you Mom and know you are with out pain know and with the Lord, I wish I could come and visit you and come back but I know that is impossible some day I will be in Heaven and see you till then Mom I love you always your daughter Gretchen....
New January 22, 2008  (dreams that I have had after she passed away just in the last month)
I  had a dream about my mom I was in the bedroom and went out and down the hall I saw my mom she was in the kitchen, but she did not say anything when I got closer she was gone.  I then had another dream about her a couple nites ago, she walked all the way to out house in Portland, she said it was cold in the bedroom that she slept in at our house I said I would of gotten my cuddle blanet for her and hot water bottle but she said that was ok, then she said she was really sick and would it be ok with me if she went to heaven and I said yes but I would miss her and she said she would miss me to, and then I said would she come and visit me and she said she would.
