My Story

Nancy grew up in Pembroke Massachusetts, an area affectionately called "the pines". It was a close knit community, one where everybody knew everybody, kids ran free - yet were closely watched by many. She was one of 5 kids, all full of life & adventure; Ellen, Ralph, Billy (Nancy's twin & aka Bird Man), & Julie. Their mom Dorothy, known to many as Dottie, was a devoted & very hands on fun loving mom who worked hard & raised all 5 of her children by herself, even though family was always close by to lend a hand & be of any support. Dottie passed away Feb 9, 2001 & at the time was living w/ Nancy & her family. Nancy was not only her daughter & caregiver, but they were great friends. Nancy was blessed with 4 wonderful kids & 2 grand children. Her children David, Toni, & twins John & Ilie were her greatest loves. Despite some time apart, they never once left her mind or heart. When together she was an amazing mom. She truly enjoyed being in their presence. Nancy moved to upstate NH to be closer to our grandparents, William & Millie Knapp. She enjoyed being in the country, having the simple life. One of Nancy's finest traits was that of caregiver. Nancy was able to obtain her LNA license & loved her job very much especially caring for the elderly. She did a great job caring for our aging grandparents & was by their side straight til the end. She made friends very easily.. She was like a magnet, people were just drawn to her... She had a bubbly fun personality with an infectious smile that brightened up everyone's day. She never was one to be tied to the materialistic things of this world. She knew how to make the best of what she had and didn't ever complain much about what she didn't have. Nancy inherited her mom's generosity & hospitality. It didn't matter if they were struggling, if someone was in need, they shared everything they had without complaint or expectation. One of Nancy's favorite places to go was our grandfather's camp even further north into NH. Growing up it was a fun getaway, but also as an adult it was a nice place for her (for anyone) to retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday chaotic life. I am truly blessed to have been able to spend so much of my childhood with Nancy; memories I will share little by little. I was always granted the opportunity to have Nancy live with us as teenagers for about a year as well. And then later on when her son David was 3 & my son PJ was 1, They lived with my husband & I for several months. Definitely had some great times.. I surely could continue on & on... and I am sure I will regularly contribute my thoughts, but I look forward to reading all about the memories you all have of Nancy. In closing, there has been much confusion about why this happened... We may never know, and that is frustrating to say the least... But one thing is for sure, it has brought a lot of closer together!! RIP Nance, you are loved, missed, and never will be forgotten!!! <3
