My Story

~*~

Born into World War I in Belgium, her family was poverished. Growing up with her older brother Omer and her two parents, Mamy has told many stories of her surviving the war. Growing up, she rode her bike down the street and had to throw herself into ditches and sewers as cover from the explosions.

Mamy grew up with a very strong sense of morals. Education was her top priority, and she was extremely strong-willed. She never tolerated abuse of any kind. She specifically budgetted to make sure that her girls could go to school. She had an amazing memory and could recall the songs that she sang in choir when she was in elementary school.  She spoke French and a Belgian dialect that is not too well known. She loved cats, dogs and people.

She married the love of her life in her late teens, Louis-Joseph Baudoux. She had two beautiful daughters, Josianne and Claudine Baudoux. They both gave her many grandaughters and a grandson, and in term many great-grandchildren.

At almost 96 years old, Mamy had refused to use her cane to walk with and she had fallen down and hit her head very hard. She was admitted to the hospital and was recovering very well. She went to give the nurse her glasses when her brain began hemmhoraging. She passed away minutes later, without feeling a thing. She died on January 15th, 2010 in the afternoon at about 1:00 pm. She is to be cremated January 18th, 2010 and the funeral arrangements are pending. Her urn and ashes will be transported to Belgium, where her resting place awaits her.
