My Story

The old saying, "Only the good die young," really fits here because Lisa Marie Williamson had just turned 40 the month before her murder.  She was taken away from her family and those who loved her most, and though the reasons are still not clear, she will always remain close to us through her love, generosity, and wonderful memories she left behind.

Lisa was the best friend that a mother, father, or another person could ever hope to have.  Her parents, Tom and Wanda Williamson, know that their child was special to everyone she ever met.  She was a truly lovable and loved girl, with a heart as big as her smile.  No one could ever say anything negative about her because there was not anything negative associated with her.  She loved the people in her life, and believe me, we loved her back!   She made friends easily and gave each person a piece of her heart.

She was passionate about animals, adopting dogs and cats, as well as mice, hamsters, and guinea pigs; they were family to her, just as each and every friend she ever made was part of her family.  Lisa could not, and did not, say "no" very often, even if it was to her detriment.  She embodied nurturing and caring for others.  I always admired her ability to overlook the flaws of others and see the good in them.

Lisa had a love of music, taking drum lessons when she was in her 20's.  She enjoyed classic rock, 80's music (specifically Duran Duran), some current bands, and was always willing to listen to a band and their music.

The last time I talked to Lisa, it was about 2 months before her murder.  We were reminiscing how we had know each other for over 27 years (having met as 13 year old freshmen in high school), how we had worked together at two different places of employment, how our nicknames for each other had evolved, and that we would grow old together, laughing on the front porch, drinking our coffee, and remembering all of the crazy stuff we did while we were growing up together.  We were amazed at turning 40 together, having weathered the storms of life together as best friends who were closer than sisters.  Neither of us knew that would be the last time we would share a laugh.  We emailed more than talked since I moved out of Detroit for Florida 8 years ago, but whenever we spoke on the telephone, it was just like I was home again, and we were at Apple Annie's, having coffee and dessert.

My son knows how much she loved him because I tell him all of the time about his Auntie Lisa. The tears are still flowing, and the pain is still real.  I remember so many good times, but I don't remember her laugh much anymore, and the memory of her voice is fading a bit more each day.  I miss her with each birthday, each holiday, each anniversary passes and she is not there to celebrate it with me.

Lisa's murderer was found guilty of Second Degree Murder on September 23, 2011.  He received a sentence of 39-60 years; we pray he takes that time to reflect upon his deeds, change his life, and understand that he has deprived the world of a wonderful woman.

I love you, Great Dionne. My heart is forever broken.  I hope you have a cup of coffee and a Cookie Delight waiting for me when I see you again.
