My Story

Kirsty was born on the 17-10-98. She as a sister called Sheree who is aged 11 now. All three of us lived together in our family home, we wanted for nothing else in our lifes. Then on the 19th of january 2004 Kirsty woke up and she had had a stroke on the right side of her body. This was such a shock to see, a five year old girl who was dragging her right arm and leg and she just didn't seem to be bothered about it!. We soon went to the doctors and then the hospital and i was told at four oclock that night that Kirsty had got a brainstem glioma! Six to nine months the doctors gave my baby to live. What a shock this came as to me and the rest of the family members. After they had finished all the test at the hospital we were eventually allowed to go home one week later. I nursed my little girl at home, with the help of her sister sheree. Slowly at first my little baby started to go down hill, she wasn't able to eat or swollow, we had a whole range af hospital machinery at home to help us to feed kirsty and to help her to breath. The days and nights were very long, i had to feed her milk via a pipe through her nose, and she was also on a mountain of medication that had to be administerd through the same pipe. My healthy five year old girl who was meant to have a life time ahead of her was slowly turning back in to what i can only describe as a baby. She had to wear nappies because she had lost all control. I did my best to care for her and to give her what she needed. On the ninth of march 2004 i was giving Kirsty a bed bath and i noticed her feet and fingers were changing colour, i secretly knew inside this did not look good. Kirsty's only words that day were "i love you mum". At three forty five that evening Kirsty started to be sick, i could see it in her face, this was going to be the end. I picked my baby up and held her close for what sempt like seconds, Then her sister came home and in some way she knew what was happening, all three of us just sat there cuddling each other tight. We both gave kirsty a kiss and at four oclock my little girl took in her last breath. Seven weeks and one day was all my baby got, not the six to nine months that the doctors had said. The days after are all much a blare to me. Some how both me and Sheree arranged a funeral, Sheree choose to have Kirsty dressed as cinderella, On the day of the funeral sheree herself wore the same out fit. I could go on writing for ever but i must make myself stop as it's very upsetting to me. My life as become so empty, i have a vast empty hole in my heart. I could not even begin to tell you the pain i feel. I cry each day for my baby. my head is full of a hundred and one if only's.
