My Story

James was born on November 30, 1951 in Louisville, KY's Jewish hospital to his mother Norma Shain and father James T. Davis Sr., who unfortunately passed away before the birth while serving his country.  He attended school at Resurrection Catholic on Poplar Level Road, and then Southern High School.  He always had an infatuation with the Army, because of his Dad, and soon joined in 1968.  Serving in Vietnam, his service was cut short due to the loss of his mother in 1971.  His two aunts, Nina and Iona, basically played the roll of mother to him, and grandmother, to his children until their passing on September 13, 1997 and July 19, 2013, respectively.  Iona's husband, Dee, was the father figure in Jim's life, and the one man he looked up to.  Teaching him everything he knew about fishing, and everything for that matter, Jim cherished the times he had with Dee, up to his passing in June 1989.  Soon after entering the Army, Jim married his first wife, Catherine, and there after his first child was born on November 10, 1971 and they named her Mellisa, in which he misspelled her name on the birth certificate.  A few years later his second daughter was born on November 24, 1973, and they named her Rhonda Sue.  Jim met the next large part of his life in 1978, but figured she was "out of his league," and didn't ask her out for a nearly decade.  That woman was Theresa Rodgers, who had already given birth to three boys.  After going on one date, and meeting the boys, (Mikie, Brandon, & Bryan) Jim fell in love with all four, and the rest is history.  He raised the boys as his own, and loved their mother more than anything.  Twenty-five years of marriage later, Jim's legacy will live on in the lives of his wife, 5 children, and in the hearts of everyone he came into contact with.  He was a husband to one, father to five, grandfather to three, uncle to many, and hero to all.  He will be missed, but will never be forgotten.
