My Story

James Langley was born and raised in Kinder, Louisiana on December 20, 1933 to Paul and Ada Langley.  He married Vernalene Bertrand on August 9, 1951 and had 3 children while living in Kinder - Norman Terrall Langley, born August 13, 1953, Trudi Gail Langley, born January 15, 1959, and Timothy Paul Langley, born February 9, 1961.  He then moved his family to Houston, Texas.  James worked in construction for 35+ years.  He was General Superintentent for Manhattan, Telespen, and Vaughn Construction Companies.

James is survived by 2nd wife - Barbara Mahaffey Langley of Houston, 1 brother - Marvin Langley of Kinder, his 3 children - Terry, Trudi & Tim, 2 stepsons - Michael & Mark Gilbert, 1 stepdaugher - Michelle Gilbert all of Houston.  He had 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

James enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, building, and reading.  His favorite author was Louis Lamore.   He was the General Superintentent for both Manhattan and Vaughn Construction during their building of the Houston Medical Center.  James' name is on a plaque marking the construction of the original medical center buildings.

James (Daddy) was on dialysis for the last year of his life and wanted so bad to just stop and join his mother (Granny) and all the others waiting for him in Heaven.  Daddy was raised by a godly mother and raised his children in a godly home during his marriage to Vernalene Bertrand.

Dad had a dream one night about 2 years before his death that he was talking to his Mom.  He saw Granny and Mawmaw (Vernalene's mom) talking and he went to join the conversation with them.  He told me that he had cried and really had a good time with them.  He said that he started speaking in tongues (that heavenly language) in the dream and then he woke up, and he was crying and speaking in tongues.  I believe that God was getting my dad prepared for what was to come in the next couple of years.  Daddy made a complete change in his life at that time and began walking with the Lord again.

James Carroll Langley will always be remembered for his great work that he did in the construction business, but we, his family, will remember him for the kind and gentle heart that he had.  He was always concerned for his loved ones and always wanted everyone to be happy.  We will miss him and love him always.
