My Story

Deacon Donald Odell Pitts, welcomed to the world August 31, 1940 in Yreka, Ca, welcomed to glory & reunited with his wife on April 13, 2008, which would have been their wedding anniversary, in Modesto, California.

Donald, a sincere generous spirit full of life and love for 67 years, loved God & his family. He was a people person, joyfully embracing life and the people he met. Don had an insatiable quest for knowledge and adventure, an unparalleled sense of humor and a fisherman from his heart.
Donald married the love of his life, Ruth Ellen Dunn, who has been waiting for him in glory since 1998, they were married 29 years.

Don & Ruth raised 4 beautiful children, Michael Dunn, Minister Fred Pitts, who joined his mother in heaven January 2000, daughter, Debritu Pitts-McCardell, wife of Pastor Herman McCardell of Toledo Ohio and Donald O. Pitts Jr.  Denver, Colorado.

For a number of years Brother Pitts & family worshipped at the Prince of Peace C.O.G.I.C., Oakland, Ca, relocating to Modesto Ca they united with The Seed of Joy C.O.G.I.C. and served there for several years. Eventually Bro. Pitts moved to Ohio in 2006 to live with his daughter Debritu and there served as a deacon in the New Seasons C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of his son-in law, Pastor Herman McCardell.

Due to poor health Donald returned to California in October 2007 to be near his Sister & brother in law, Clarence & Elizabeth Sharp & the California family, he was looking forward to becoming a member of Glad Tidings at the end of this month but God had a different plan.

Some beloved family members, who preceded him in death, are Parents, Kathleen & Fred Pitts, his grandmother, Mother Ella McGowan who nurtured & raised him in the fear and admonition of the Lord, his brother, Michael Pitts, nephew Vincent Sharp, Sr. and great nephew Kevin Sharp Jr.

Deacon Pitts will be sorely missed by his special friend Deacon Kenny Nelson and his Ohio church family, New Seasons C. O. G. I. C.

Donald's departure will leave a void in the lives of his children, Daughter in Law, Trina Pitts & grandchildren Justin, Jasmine, Joshua and Janae' Pitts of Stockton, Ca; Aliyah and Zion Ruth Pitts, Candus Huggins and Macknicha McCardell Martin Ohio; Sister, Mary Joseph, Brothers, Gregory and Anthony Pitts, Bay Area;

special nieces & nephews, Vanessa Sharp & Carl Simon, their son Kalim (Crystal) Simon; Myrel Ross (Warren) their children Jayson Wilson, Chrystal & Charles Allen; Claire Norman (James) their daughter Etana Imani; Michael Sharp (Nanette) their children Richard, Aaron & Victoria Sharp; Vincent Sharp, Jr. (great nephew); Kevin Sharp, Sr. (Pamela) and their daughter Ava Monique Sharp, Samantha Howard, Abbysinia Wincher & a large number of other nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins and friends.
