My Story

Chanel was my first dog, and we were able to be together for 13 years.  It was the beginning of mainstream internet use to research and make purchases, when my friend Jackie suggested that I buy a dog online.

I thought it was ludicrous, but began my research and found a breeder in Medina, Ohio whose family taunted her that she was too old fashioned.  So the breeder had a website built for her to spite her adult children to prove that she was not old fashioned.  I liked her story, and the story of Chanel.  Her father was a recurring champion in the dog shows.  She was the last of 2 dogs out of the litter.  I chose her from a picture and she was off on a plane to LAX where I picked her up.

It was love at first sight.  As we drove back to Orange County, I started to test her response to a number of names.  She chose Chanel even though I told her that it was a prissy name.

Chanel was the perfect name.  She was prissy, and proud.  She was born with a formal show dog gait and she would walk around puddles of water on the ground.

Her illnesses began early and she would have a lifetime of digestion, and protein problems.  No table scraps for her.  I know she envied her cousin Cargo who got to eat everything that we were eating.

She didn't get as many walks as I would have liked her to have, but she compensated by using the treadmill.  Sometimes to spite me she would wake me up at 3 in the morning to take an exercise break.

We had many emergency visits to the dog hospital for her digestive problems which led to her kidney failure.  I think she knew that I would always take care of her and when she was in my arms, I think she felt safe.

She had alot of energy like most Wire Fox Terriers and of course the distinguishable ding-ding wag of the tail.

She was elegant but sporty too.  We had many hikes at Peter's Canyon and would help me keep my pace up.

After 3 weeks of fighting the effects of her kidney failure and a pure miracle Chanel left this world on the 22nd anniversary date of my sister Kim's death.  It was very difficult for me, but I know that she was more than ready to go.

I miss her deeply and grateful for the wonderful memories with her.
