Chad Van-Ness Gordon, age 34, of Mt. Vernon passed away 6:17 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 2014 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. Chad was born on July 16, 1980 in Mt. Vernon, the son of District Elder James Gordon Sr. and Shirley E. (Flippen) Gordon. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and Parkland College in Champaign. Mr. Gordon worked as a community service worker for Southtown Family Center. He was a member of the Southtown Apostolic Church. He is survived by his parents, District Elder James L. Gordon Sr. and wife Shirley E. (Flippen) Gordon of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, James Lee Gordon Jr. of Newark, Delaware and Steffen Ross Gordon and wife LaMiranda of Mt. Vernon; sister, Tiffany Renee Diane (Gordon) Graves and husband Minister Gregory Graves of Mt. Vernon; paternal grandmother, Dorothy (Gordon) Bradley of Indianapolis, Indiana; Godmother, Tina Pettiford (Anthony); nieces, Thalia, Amiyah, Alivia and Skylar; uncles, Walter Flippen of Chicago, Flennoy Flippen (Ursel) of Los Angeles , California, David Flippen of Centralia and Andrew Flippen of Mt. Vernon; aunts, Jean Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rosetta Gordon Fisher of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tanya Marie Gordon of Charleston, Illinois, Diane Gordon Warren of Indianapolis, Indiana, Marya Cherine (Flippen) Broadway of Chicago, Valerie Sue Flippen of Atlanta, Georgia, Crystal Morrison (Robert) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Virginia Flippen of Dallas, Texas and Darla Flippen of East Saint Louis, Illinois; also a host of cousins. Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Richard Gordon Sr.; maternal grandfather, George McDaniels; maternal grandmother, Mary Louise Flippen; uncle, Richard Gordon Jr.; two aunts, Barbara Jones and Sandra Gordon; and also a Godfather, Larry Mitchell Sr.
