My Story

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois by immigrant Italian parents, Carl was a truly special human being. He was the 4th child of Carl and Christine, and was their second son.

As a boy, Carl was known as being a kind and caring son and friend.  His entrepreneurial ways started young, as he used to deliver newspapers. He graduated from Ryerson Junior High, and attended Austin High School on the North side of Chicago. There he developed friendships that would last his entire life.

After high school graduation in 1953, he began attending the Chicago College of Commerce, studying general business. He eventually began taking classes to become a Certified Court Reporter.

While attending school, he worked at the Continental Bank in downtown Chicago, and it was there that he met and began dating our mother, Arlene. They dated for 4 years, and were married on February 20,1960, in a beautiful winter wedding ceremony. The new couple honeymooned in Florida.

Carl began working as a court reporter In Chicago, and eventually partnered with Carmen Maiorano to form Metro Reporting Service. For many years, their offices were located in a historic building across from the Daley Plaza.

As for family life, in December of 1960, Carl and Arlene's first child was born. She was named Jackie, and was born on December 6, 1960.  A son followed, on March 9, 1962 and he was named Steven Carl. Anthony was born on February 12, 1964, and Carl bought the growing family their first house in Schaumburg, Illinois. The home was in the first home development ever built in Schaumburg, in 1965.
The youngest daughter, Gina, was born on May15, 1968, and the family was complete.

Carl commuted by train each day from Schaumburg to Chicago until the early 70's. By that time, he was driving in style in luxury vehicles from Liberty Buick !!  He loved his work, and ran a very successful business. He was well respected in the Chicago legal community, and loved and respected by his employees.

Carl was a very physically active man who loved to play softball in the summers, bowl, and became quite good at racquetball. He competed in tournaments and actually won.  He also loved to garden and landscaped at his home.

Carl and Arlene unfortunately divorced in 1978, and he had full custody of his children. Being a full-time working dad in the 80's was not very common, but Carl handled it with poise. He was a fine example as a father, and his children love and miss him very much.

Although his life was taken too soon, this memorial is being created so people can celebrate his life. There are so many friends, family and business associates who dearly miss this man, and talk so fondly of him so many years later.

February 14, 2009 will mark the 20 year anniversary of his death, but to me it does not feel that long. Maybe that is because time stood still for me on that day...............Every birthday, holiday and special occasion, we all think of him and wish he were here. But he is, because I am sure that he is with the angels in heaven and looks down on us each day.
