My Story

Eulogy delivered for my father Antone Cardoza Jr on November 17, 2014. St. Mary's Church Fairhaven, Ma. Good Morning, As I look around this church, it is evident that my father was very loved and respected, but I think we all knew that. I could go on for 3 to 5 hours about my Dad, but since Father Gomes has only given me 3 to 5 minutes, here we go. First of all, thank you for being here with us. This is certainly the most difficult thing we've been through, and I've learned there isn't a right way or wrong way to handle this. For those of you that knew my Dad, you knew him to be the kindest, most unselfish person who always had a smile, or a story, or both! He was easy going, and willing to help in a second. Those qualities emanated within. He was a hard worker, with strong work ethics, but most importantly, he was a family man. He always made time for family vacations, and was happiest when we were all together. Our parents instilled very important morals and beliefs into Nick and I. Do the best you can do, respect others, be yourself, be a leader, not a follower, and most important...Don't chase boys, let the boys chase you. Valuable life lessons... I didn't realize how he impacted the lives of so many people. I looked up to him as a very important man in my life. He was the first man to hold me in his arms, and to love me. He was my protector, my confidant, and my advice seeker. He and I had been having lunch every Wednesday for a long time, and I don't know who enjoyed it more, he or I. For a couple of hours each week, we would solve the worlds problems over a pitcher of beer and either pizza, burgers, or nachos, and most recently, garlic bagels and coffee. I am so very grateful to have spent so much time with him. The last 10 weeks have been very challenging. You never know what life is going to throw you, and they say God doesn't give you what you can't handle. For everything he endured, he never complained and had a positive attitude. Our strong family bond only became stronger. Outsiders commented on how they FELT the love of our family. At the hospital and rehab, Dad was their optimal patient. People would often stop by his room just to say hello. Last Wednesday, our family circle became broken. The strongest link has been temporarily removed, only until we can all be joined again. Until then, the importance of family will continue to live on. We will continue to take care of one another because "family is the glue that holds us together." Heaven has gained a precious angel. May your feathery wings soar high above watching over us. Rest in Peace Papa. I will see you in my dreams, I love you.
