My Story

Teresa was born in Cartersville, Ga. to J.D. & Elaine Adams. They lived in Adairsville at the time. She was a healthy 8 lb.7oz. baby girl. Her sisters, Gail and Sandra, came along over the next few years. Our uncle Sonny took us all to watch Jody Ridley race one Saturday night and that is when the racing entered our lives. But Teresa had a love that for her was much bigger than racing . She could sing like an angel!!! Mama & Daddy could too. Over the next several years I remember going to countless talent shows and her singing at all kinds of places. She won all of the shows that I remember! I just remember how proud I was to be her little sister! In her mid teens she met her 1st husband and fell in love and had Tammy. Shawn came along a couple of years later. She had her boy and girl that she had always wanted. The years went by and we all had our children so together we raised all of the kids. Our kids were more like brothers and sisters! She took up hairdressing when she was in her early 20's until she was diagnosed with Melanoma. It came back 8 times over the years. Not long after that, our little Jonathon came along. Teresa's sunshine! The sun rose and sat in him as far as she was concerned. He nick named her Pokey. It was short for Pokey Baby. He even did his "Pokey Dance" for her on her death bed. It made her as happy after he was in his 20's as it did when he was 3 yrs. old to see him do that for her. She adored all of her kids & Grandkids but Jonathon was her heart. Josh, Tyler Kelcey,Mitchel, Emily, Addy and Jaxon came along a little later and she loved each and every one of them so very much. She was the very same way about her sister's Grandkids and they all loved her too! Several years ago, she was stricken with COPD. Just like Daddy was. She fought harder than anyone I have ever seen to get better but she was just so very sick. Her lungs had lost all capacity and she just couldn't breathe. Her funeral was mostly family, and it was simple, just the way she would have wanted it.  Jonathon got up and that young man made her funeral the best funeral she could have ever asked for. He told about his love for her and hers for him. Afterwards, the coffin was about to be closed so I jumped up and and asked the director to wait a minute. I kissed her forehead and I told her how much I love her and I raised up and glanced back everyone in our family was standing in line and one at a time they kissed her & told her bye.  I have never seen anything like it or have I ever seen anyone get so many kisses! It was so hard to have to let her go. At the grave, Tammy said a prayer & they lowered her into the ground. We all threw in a flower and Shawn, Jody, Chris, Gary  & the Grandkids covered her grave themselves with the softer dirt. She was such a special person to everyone. She loved all of the kids as much as if they were her own and they all loved their "Pokey". She adored her Sisters and they felt the same about her, (her & Sandra were sort of "side kicks"!), but we were all 3 very close!  We will all miss her more than any words could ever say and life will never be the same without her. We love you Sis. We will see you in Heaven.
