My Story

Richard Skvarj 74 passed away on Feb.10,2008.Born on Sept.4,1933.He was very dedicated to his work an family.Richard was a police officer for 12years,Pennsylvania State Constable for 12years,volunteer fire fighter, member of the Boilermakers Local 154 and Operating Engineers Local 66.He was also a former employee of Gavlik Construction Company. He has many surviving family inculding children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.I myself was his only granddaughter, but was considered more of a daughter to him.He has a great-grandson Timmy whom he loved dearly and was so happy to see grow from a baby to a very mature 10year old.He was so happy the day he was born he would say how lucky he was to see his 1st born great-grandson.He would laugh an say how ironic it was that his first born granchild had his first born great-grandchild.He would tell me he was a special child cause he was the 1st born on Easter in our town.He went 24years till he would see another great-grandchild born. But this baby was special all on it's own.Very special an dear to him because after so many years of waiting an thinking he would never have another granddaughter the day finally came his only granddaughter gave birth to his second great-granchild a very tiny beautiful baby girl named Madison. She was the joy of his life for the last five years as he was to her. They had a very special conection he would spend as much time seeing her as he could even though he was sick an allways in pain she could get away with anything just like me when I was little Madison could do nothing wrong in his eyes. She was his little angel. She would light up his eyes anytime she went to visit.Even when he was in the nursing home an lonely Madison could walk in with her brother, dad and me and he would get the biggest smile on his face an let her climb up on the bed with him.He would look so happy an serine. We would push his wheelchair outside an she would do her little balerina dances for him an he would just smile. Then there was my husband Cliff whom he new since he was a child. The shared many great memories. When Rich my daddy as I would call him was a police officer used to allways pull Cliff over my dad was the first person to ever put my husband in handcuffs granted he was only 8 years old at the time.Cliff has very found memories an stories of my dad that he tells me all the time.My dad was one of the greatest men you could ever meet if you new him you were one of the many people who know what a great man he was.He was the type of person who would give his shirt of his back to someone. He didnt have much but appricated everthing he had.He never took life for granted he lived everday as it was his last.He loved his garden, rose bed, cutting wood, and animals easpically dogs.He had many dogs through out his life there were a few that were special to him one of which was his full blooded Beagle Maggie whom has lived with use since he got sick he wanted his great-grandkids to allways have her to remember him when he was gone. His other special dog is with him in heaven I'm not sure what his name was. When he was in the U.S. Army he was staitioned in Japan while he was there a dog would allways come around so he eventally kept him.One day he had tied him outside where he lived of base when he came back his dog was gone after looking all day he could't find him,as he was a couple houses from home he stoped at a place to eat. After his food came he said he begain to eat it an did not like the way it taste so he called the lady over who brought his food to him an asked her what she gave him he told me she said the had found a stray dog walking around that afternoon.I guess by now you no how that ended. In conclusion my dad was one of the strongest people I new he taught me to respect, allways appreciate everything you have even if it's not much and last but not least allways live ever day as it's your last cause you never no what will happen tommorow.I love you an miss you daddy love your special daughter Kindra.
