My Story

Vernon Johnson was born on January 10, 1919 in Jacksonville, Texas.  He was the son of Ollie Johnson and Dora Porter-Johnson.  He married the lovely Lucy Linthicum-Johnson on March 20, 1943 in Palestine, Texas.  Soon after marriage they had three beautiful children, Verna Faye, Vernon Jr., and Luther Wayne Johnson.  Vernon earned a living for his family as an air conditioning specialist for General Electric, Co. for 25 years in Tyler, Texas.  Prior to that Vernon served his country in the United States Army.  He served in World War II from October 21, 1942 to November 16, 1945.  After raising his family and retiring from years of service to the community, Vernon and Lucy moved to Corpus Christi, TX.  While in Corpus Christi Vernon and Lucy were active members of St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Derrick Reeves.  Vernon served as a Deacon for many years and sang in the the St. John's Men's Choir.  In his years living in Corpus he was able to see the growth of his family through his grandchildren: Angela Portis,Vernon Johnson III, Vernisha Portis, Aaron Johnson, Stacey Johnson, Lana Johnson and Jasmine Johnson.  Vernon and Lucy lived happily in their home in Corpus Christi. They recently moved to Trisun Retirement Center where they enjoy their friends and community. Vernon is  survived by his loving wife Lucy, daughter Verna Portis and husband Maurice,  son Luther Wayne Johnson and wife Susan. He was the grandfather of 7 Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Posted Values
