My Story

Our beautiful son Myles was diagnosed at a 20 week scan with a heart defect called "HYPOPLASTIC LEFT HEART SYNDROME" and we were told he would need at least 3 open heart operations from the age of 3 days to 6 years. Myles had his first operation at 6 days old and can through it, He had 7 other problems as well as his heart condition.
He suffered with terrible acid reflux, he was partly blind in his right eye as it was really small & hadn't grown properly, he had Central Hypotonia which is a nerve system problem, Kidney problems, Growth and many more, But to look at Myles you wouldn't think there was other problems if he didnt have his gastric nasal tube in.
Myles was discharged from Birmingham Childrens Hospital on the 12th Jan & transfered over to Shrewsbury Children's Ward in Shropshire, Then thats where my work began, I wanted to  take over from the nurses & do all his care and once i could do it all he was discharged on the 21st Jan 08 and we had 8 lovely weeks with him, dispite his hospital trips to and from i didn't care, as long as he was at home with us. Then on 22nd March 08 Myles was rushed back in to hospital were his left lung collasped and found out he had a severe lung artery infection & he was rushed into surgery were they try so hard to cut out any infected parts, but was almost impossible.
Then he went for another emergency 6 hour operation the next day and he came through it but was touch and go, the doctors told us they didnt think he will make the day, But he did, but sadly  again he had to go for other opetations and in total had 4 ops in 4 days, thats when the doctors knew he wasnt going to pull through this time as his tiny body could no longer take it, he only had 30% chance, then on the saturday 5th April we were called in and his sats level had dropped dangerously low in the 30s i knew the damage had already been done, and i made my decision that i didn't want him to suffer and it wasn't fair for his life to be nothing but pain, After a few hours had passed he was stable again & i took my two girls back to Edward House were we were staying, But that dreadful phone call came at 12.00 noon & my heart just stopped there and then, i knew i was losing my son, i walked to the hospital just praying it wasn't to be, I had to be strong for my girls and myself but they could see the horrible truth on my saddened face, When the doctors told me they could do another operation, I jumped at them and said NO more ops, NO more suffering and NO more pain is my baby going to endure, So I decided enough was enough and made that heart breaking decision to turn off the ventilor and at 4.30pm Myles peacefully passed away. He died the same time as he was born in dec 07 on a saturday and also died on a saturday, he was even taken ill on a saturday we think he likes Saturdays.
The next day we found out that Myles had already passed away before we turned off the machine and the machine was the only thing keeping him alive, It was his way of saying his body could not fight anymore.
We had 2 beautiful white horses and carriage (Hearse) as seen in the photos, We all chose his blue cloudy casket with a teddy on and they inscribed Baby Myles at the foot of the casket, which was fabulously done, My dad carried Myles into church and my stepson carried him out, Our eldest & youngest daughter chose to read somethings in church and Our middle daughter sang Somewhere over the Rainbow and had it put onto a cd, as she wouldnt of been emotionally stable to sing in front of everyone, so it was sang on the way out.
We buried him at our local cemetry, so we can all visit him everyday and have somewhere to go when they need someone to talk to, I miss Myles so much and the heart ache is so strong, I try to get on as best for everyone, my husband seems to cope better than i do and our children seem to as well, but as for me, i just cry at silly things and remember what beautiful times we had together, But i will never forget the wonderful people Myles made along the way, His Cardiac Liaison Nurses and all the other Nurses and Doctors who really tried hard to make his life as comfortable as possible.
Thank you ALL SO MUCH!
And may God Bless you All love Myles and Family xxxxxxxxxxxxx
God Bless You Myles now and Forever More
Love Mummy, Daddy, Laura, Lauren, Hannah & your other brother John, Stephen and big sister Amanda xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
