My Story

Lazarus Njuguna Chege was born on 13th December  1941, in Muthangari (Msongari), Nairobi. He was the Son of the Late Alexander Chege and the Late Catherine Muthoni. He was the 3rd Born of their children namely Susan Njeri, Dorothy Wanjiru, the Late John Waweru and Michael Ngugi.Lazarus was baptised 5 days after birth at St. Austin’s Msongari . He received Holy Communion and Confirmation at an early age. For most of his youth, he served as an Altar boy and was an ardent member of the Choir. azarus  started school in 1949 at Kairi Primary School until 1954, where he proceeded to Mangu Intermediate  to 1957 where he sat for C.P.E. then moved to Thika Technical School until 1960.
After completing School in 1960, he was employed at Seven Up (7UP) for 3 years then went to Kenya Breweries Limited as a Sales Representative until 1967 where he was then employed at British American Tobacco (B.A.T.) still as a Sales Representative. He thereafter commenced work in Kenya Shipping Agency as the Nairobi Area Manager until 1983 where he retired to begin business until his demise. Lazarus married the love of his life Margaret Njoki Gachura on 29th November, 1969 in PCEA Kambui and they were blessed with Triplets namely Peter, Catherine & Patrick and last and not least Charity Njeri their last born. He was a devoted Husband and loving father. Lazarus was first diagnosed to be diabetic late 1991 and was on controlled drugs until December 2006 when it was after analysis, his Kidneys were discovered to have both failed. He attended Dialysis sessions for more than 3 ½ years. On 12th June, 2010, he was admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital having developed complications  and  on 16th June 2010 at 4:15pm, he peacefully went to be with the Lord. Lazarus will be remembered for his great sense of humour, huge spirit of sacrifice ,courage and cheerfulness. He was a very hardworking man, generous, caring and had the uncanny ability to make friends with all cadre and manner of person especially young children. He shall be missed by his wife Margaret, Children, Grandchildren, Relatives and Friends. Lazarus rested at the Age of 69 Yrs. He has left behind his loving wife, four Children and eight Grandchildren. May his soul and the Souls of the faithfully departed rest in Peace. Amen.
