My Story

Jordan Rice was only 13 years old when trapped in the Queensland Floods of 2010-2011 as they swept through Toowoomba, Queensland in Australia.

Trapped on top of their flooded car with mother, Donna Rice (43), and brother, Blake (10), when help arrived Jordan told rescuers to take his younger brother first. Both Jordan and his mother were shortly after swept away in the torrent when a rescue rope snapped, strained by the strength of the floodwaters.

Since his brave story has become known Jordan's last actions of selfless heroism have been recognised across Australia and the world media.

When the deaths of his son and Donna were confirmed, father John Tyson stoically noted "He won't go down with any fanfare or anything like that I don't think anyone will even wear a black armband for him but he's just the champion of all champions, a family hero".

Jordan was be buried together with his mother Donna in a shared grave in Toowoomba on the morning of 19 January 2011.
